Coffee Hour September 16
Our coffee/fellowship hour on September 16th will be hosted by Megan Ray with the help of her mom Kelly and grandmother. All donations for that coffee hour will be given to Megan for her chosen charity. Megan is planning to donate to Hart Middle School in Rochester Hills for their butterfly garden. As always, these coffee hour monies are used by the deacons for their mission work. The Deacons are excited to support Megan, one of our young church members, in her mission to help in the community.
We always appreciate our congregation and their generous hearts. Your Deacons

Many Thanks for Your Donations!
Thank you to our friends at First Presbyterian Church of Troy for collecting bedding for Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan, and our Bedding for Kids Program! Every month, the Furniture Bank provides beds to more than 60 vulnerable children in our community, many of whom are transitioning from homelessness and other crisis situations. Our Bedding for Kids program provides each child receiving a bed with an age and gender appropriate bedding set tagged with their name. Each of these children knows that someone valued them as an individual, and picked out a cozy, cheerful bedding set especially for them. Your church’s generous donation of bedding this past month means that at least 20 local children in need are sleeping in warmth and comfort tonight, and in the assurance of your special care.

Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness and generosity.
Tami Jelinek, Lead Volunteer, Bedding for Kids, Furniture Bank of Southeastern Michigan

Per Capita Update
At our September meeting session voted to make our final 2018 per capita payment of $1000 to Presbytery. We have not collected enough to cover this amount but felt it was important to stay current with our commitment to Presbytery. If you have not yet made your payment of $27 per member please try to do so in the coming weeks. If you are unsure if you have made your payment reference you most recent statement, or check with the church office. Thank you.

Life Line Screening on September 18th
Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, is pleased to offer a preventive health event here on 9/18/2018. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. There are three ways to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129, please call toll-free 1-888-653-6441 or visit or text the word circle to 797979

Movie Morning
Yes, that’s right! It’s that time again for Movie Morning! Because Ruth and I are going to be out of town on our regular movie day (second Wednesday), we have made the “executive decision” to move Movie Morning from the 12th of September to the 19th.

We will meet in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, September 19th at 10:00 a.m. to view “Coco.” It’s an animated adventure comedy about aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family’s ancestral ban on music, who enters the Land of the Dead to find his great-great-grandfather, a legendary singer. It is truly a delightful movie and won an Oscar last year for best animated film and also won an Oscar for best song, “Remember Me”!

Make plans to join us for the movie, popcorn and trivia!

Sunday School Resumes on September 16th
Sunday School will resume for the 2018-19 year on Sunday, September 16th and will meet two Sundays each month. As in the past, the September and October schedule is posted on the CE Bulletin Board in the back hallway. Again, the Presbyterian USA curriculum, Growing in Grace & Gratitude, has been selected by the CE Team. The lesson focus for fall will be “God is always with us.”

Please extend a warm welcome to Reverend Renee Roederer. Rev. Roederer has been commissioned by the Presbytery of Detroit to serve as a Community Chaplain for Nones and Dones. In that role, she ministers among neighbors in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, and she serves as a Campus Minister among students at the University of Michigan. Within this role, Renee is also the organizer of Michigan Nones and Dones, a community for people who are “spiritually curious but institutionally suspicious.” This community includes participants who are religiously unaffiliated (the Nones) and those who have left traditional, institutional churches (the Dones). She lives in Ann Arbor with her husband, Ian, who is an astronomer at the University of Michigan.

Fall Mission Project: Ingathering 2018
Each fall our congregation donates items to help the Detroit Presbytery fulfill specific need requests made by 30-plus Detroit Area charitable organizations. You will find the requested items listed on tags on the Ingathering Board in the Narthex. If you would like to participate in this project, please take one or more tags from the board. Purchase the item(s) listed and return with the tag from the board attached to the specific item; please note the value of the item on the tag. The due date for returning the items is September 30th. If you would like to participate by donating cash and having the Deacons purchase items for you, please let Joyce Peterson or Louise Glazier know. Thank you, The Deacons
