Life Line Screening Returns on September 17
There is a simple, convenient way for you to get preventive health screenings and learn your risk for stroke, heart disease and other chronic conditions. These painless screenings go beyond your regular checkup to identify dangerous plaque buildup or blockage, a major risk factor for stroke and heart disease. We are pleased to host Life Line Screening, who will be on site on 9/17/2019 to conduct these valuable screenings. These 5 vital screenings are offered for only $149 and take 60-90 minutes to complete. If you register today, you will receive a $10 discount. Register by calling toll free 1-888-653-6441, visit www.lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle, or text the word “circle” to 797979.
Sunday School Starts September 15
September 15: Sunday School begins. Pastor Jasmine will welcome the children in the sanctuary (before they go back to their classroom) with a special topic called “God’s Got Your Back.” The children will receive colorful backpack tags with words to guide them as they start their new school year.
September 29: Students will meet in their classroom to start using a new curriculum selected by the CE Committee and Pastor Jasmine called “Dwell.”
Sunday School will meet twice each month. Please check the posted schedule on the CE Bulletin Board for Sunday School dates.
Grandparents’ Day is Next Week!
Looking forward to celebrating Grandparents’ Day next Sunday, September 8, when we’ll have a special prayer of blessing. Celebrate the day by bringing your grandkids!
Movie Morning Returns!
It’s time for Movie Morning again! We will meet at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18th (3rd Wednesday of the month, this time only) at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary to see “A Dog’s Journey” – rated PG adventure, comedy, drama. It’s the story of a dog who finds the meaning of his own existence through the lives of the humans he meets. Stars Josh Gad and Dennis Quaid. If you love dogs and touching movies, this one’s for you.
Oakland Literacy Council (OLC) Needs Your Help!
The OLC is a non-profit organization offering free, one-on-one tutoring to adults seeking basic literacy or English as a Second Language. Despite the affluence of Oakland County, approximately 100,000 residents are estimated to be functionally illiterate. These adults are unable to perform daily tasks such as writing a job application, deciphering a prescription label or reading to a child.
With a waiting list of over 100 students, more volunteer tutors are needed. No experience is necessary; OLC will train you. Volunteers attend a six-hour training session at the office in Bloomfield Hills and are then matched with a student who lives near them. Tutors commit to working with their student for two hours each week at either the local public library, a coffee shop or other public location. For more information, please see the flyer on the bulletin board in the narthex.
