Life Line Screening
Life Line Screening, a leading provider of community-based preventive health screenings, is pleased to offer a preventive health event at First Presbyterian Church of Troy on 10/12/2017. Five screenings will be offered that scan for potential health problems related to: blocked arteries which is a leading cause of stroke; abdominal aortic aneurysms which can lead to a ruptured aorta; hardening of the arteries in the legs which is a strong predictor of heart disease; atrial fibrillation or irregular heart beat which is closely tied to stroke risk; and a bone density screening, for men and women, used to assess the risk of osteoporosis. Register for a Wellness Package which includes 4 vascular tests and osteoporosis screening from $149 ($139 with our member discount). All five screenings take 60-90 minutes to complete. There are three ways to register for this event and to receive a $10 discount off any package priced above $129: Call toll-free 1-888-653-6441;
visit http://lifelinescreening.com/communitycircle ; or text the word circle to 797979.

*Please note: We have been provided with a limited number of vouchers good for one Individual Screening (worth $70), or $55 may be applied toward any vascular package valued at $129 or more. If you are interested, please stop in the office for more information. Pre-registration will be required.

Holiday Happenings!
It’s never too early to announce a couple of upcoming holiday events!
We will have an Interfaith Service in our sanctuary on Sunday, November 19th at 7:00 p.m. We will be in need of volunteers to help with hospitality, setting up in the Fellowship Hall, and greeters. Watch for more information!
We will have just one service on Christmas Eve Sunday, December 24th at 5:00 p.m. The Worship Committee felt one service was best so that we may celebrate the coming of the Christ child with friends and family.

Movie Morning
Join us on Wednesday, October 11th at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary to see “Hidden Figures” starring Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer. Nominated for 3 Oscars,
it’s the story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.
We always have the ever popular trivia and popcorn. Come and join in all the fun.

Peace and Global Witness Offering
This is just a reminder that the envelopes are still in the pews. Your gift to the Peace & Global Witness Offering can help to provide relief, shelter, and hope to families who’ve fled their homes in search of safety. Be part of the work to proclaim the peace of Christ with sisters and brothers around the world.

Save The Date: Fun Friday
Mark your calendar for October 20th at 6:00 p.m.! We will start the evening with a spaghetti dinner (with homemade sauce). Then we can all join in on some very friendly and easy games for all ages. Plan on bringing a game of your own if you would like. Hope to see all of you there! Christian Ed. is sponsoring this event.

GEMS: God’s Elegant Mature Servants
GEMS will be meeting on Thursday, October 26 at 12:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The speakers will be Tim & Penny Brady with highlights of their recent Australia trip. The menu for lunch will include meatloaf, salads, vegetables, rolls, and desserts. Please see the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board outside of Fellowship Hall. We hope to see you there! Friends are always welcome! For more information, please contact Kathy Hyde or Debbie Leafdale.

Our Deacons Partner with American Red Cross for a 2nd Blood Drive: October 10th
Our Deacons have partnered with the Red Cross to offer a second blood drive in 2017, to help meet the needs of our community. The Red Cross will provide signage, volunteers, donor outreach, advertising, and all other resources. The Deacons will provide access to our fellowship hall, limited coverage and homemade cookies for our donors. The blood drive will take place here at the church on Tuesday, October 10th (1:30pm to 7:30pm). Please see the sign-up sheet posted in the Narthex if you wish to make some cookies for our donors. Contact Gwen Thompson if you have any questions regarding the blood drive.

Volunteers Needed!
The Troy English Workshop has been helping our foreign-born neighbors learn American English since 2015 at the Troy Community Center. The Workshop numbers have grown and there is a need for more volunteers who can commit to helping at a Tuesday (1-3 pm) or Saturday (10 a.m.-12 p.m.), two-hour workshop each week. The current Fall Session ends on November 7th or 11th, respectively. Contact Ed Lee at Home: 248-926-2288; Cell: 248-231-6796; or, admin@toee.org . See Karen Lake for questions.
