Bingo Night This Friday with AOK!
Don’t forget our Bingo Night and Pizza/Potluck, this Friday, from 4:30–6:30 p.m. in Fellowship Hall! AOK (Acting Out Kids) will help run the event and we will have prizes. Friends and family are welcome! Please see the signup sheet in the narthex.
The session voted in June to support Hope Against Trafficking with a $500 donation. This southeast Michigan organization provides restorative housing and comprehensive services for female victims of sex and labor trafficking.
The book group will take a summer break in July and meet again on Wednesday, August 28th. We will be discussing Educated by Tara Westover. A book kit should be available in July.
Congratulations to Dan and Melissa Dunham, son and daughter-in-law of Barb, who were married on Saturday, July 6th! Best wishes to the happy couple!
Another Piano Generously Donated to our Church!
You may notice this morning that there is a new addition to Fellowship Hall! A member of the Korean congregation donated a baby grand piano! This is another very generous gift to our church and we are so grateful to receive it. We will plan a dedication of the piano at a later date, but please take a moment to express your thanks to the Korean congregation!
Pub Theology meets Tuesday, July 30 at 7:00 pm at Black Lotus in Clawson. Come join this casual group as we relax over appetizers and beverages of your choice!
School Backpack Project For 2019
Our church is again planning to provide school backpacks and supplies for 3rd graders in Troy needing assistance. If you would like to participate, please take one or more tags from the board which will either be in the Narthex or Fellowship Hall. Keep the tags, attach them to the items and write the value of the items purchased on the tags. All items should be returned by Sunday, July 28. If you wish to donate money for the purchase of supplies, please contact either Joyce Peterson or Louise Glazier.
Thank you in advance for your generosity. ~The Deacons’ Mission Committee
Deacons’ American Red Cross Blood Drive: Need Volunteers for July 25th
Our next American Red Cross Blood Drive will take place here at the church on Thursday, July 25th (11:00am to 5:00pm). Please see the sign-up sheets posted on the Deacons’ bulletin board (outside of the Fellowship Hall) if you wish to donate your time, bake cookies, or prepare a meal item. If you want to schedule an appointment to donate blood on July 25th, please log onto redcrossblood.org (sponsor code: troy). Contact Gwen Thompson if you have any questions regarding the blood drive.
Parish Council Update
The Parish Council recently coined their mission statement and they would like to share it with you. Our mission is:
“to strengthen affiliated churches by identifying and encouraging programming and resources so that the greater Church is empowered to love and work in community.”
Right now, this is affiliation between Kirk in the Hills and First Pres Troy, but that may adapt or change as time goes on. For more info or to be involved as our work continues, talk to Pastor Jasmine or the council members:
Mike Munyan, Gene Williams, and Wayne Goeman, from Troy,
Jennifer Fickel, Don Guthrie, and Ryan True from the Kirk.
Trip to Flint Museum of Art
Friend of First Pres Troy, Jan Luttenberger, is going to help lead a trip of the Kirk Seniors to Flint Museum of Art to view special displays and a scheduled demonstration on July 31. Cost is $33. Transportation will leave from the Kirk at 9:00 am. Lunch will be on your own at Zender’s in Frankenmuth with time to browse. For questions or more information contact Jan Luttenberger at 248-375-9158.
Interested in going to Puerto Rico on a Mission Trip?
Pastor Fernando from the Kirk will be leading a trip November 8-14. For more information, talk with Pastor Jasmine as soon as possible.
