Troy People Concerned Welcomes your Pantry Donations
The Deacon holiday donations have been delivered to Troy families in need. However, the TPC Food Pantry continues to offer food, household and personal hygiene items throughout the year to local families who are struggling.
As you shop for food and items you need, please remember to include an item or two for the TPC Food Pantry. Paper products and new, men’s white socks are ALWAYS needed. Thank you for supporting this on-going mission.
TIG:Troy Interfaith Group Meeting
On Monday, January 15th at 7:00 p.m., TIG, along with the Troy Police Dept., KYND/Know Your Neighbor Daily, and the Troy Area Alliance Against Hate Crimes are co-sponsoring a showing of the video “Not in Our Town: Waking in Oak Creek” followed by time for discussion. The documentary is about the 2012 deadly hate attack on the Sikh community in Wisconsin and how the suburban community worked to connect, heal and find peace. Join us at the Troy Police Dept., Emergency Operations Center, 500 W. Big Beaver , Troy.
We’re Here to Help
Knowing winter is a difficult time with the cold weather and snow, we the Deacons as well as members of our church are here to help with driving to church, appointments, shopping, bringing meals or assisting in any way needed.
Reverend Ann and Reverend Bill are available for you to communicate these needs so arrangements can be made.
GEMS: God’s Elegant Mature Servants
GEMS will meet on Thursday, January 25th at noon. Our guest speaker will be Ron Sandison whose talk is entitled “My Amazing Journey of Autism and Faith”. Ron will share his experience and hardship with having autism and writing a nationally published book, “A Parent’s Guide to Autism”. He will also share what it’s like to be married and be a dad having autism.
Ron has a Master of Divinity from Oral Roberts University. He works full time in the medical field and is a professor of theology at Destiny School of Ministry.
The next meeting of the Book Group will take place on Wednesday, January 24th, when we’ll discuss The Secret Chord by Geraldine Brooks, a reconsideration of the life of King David, as told by the prophet Nathan. All are welcome!
Holy Humor Sunday Pancake Breakfast
Our Holy Humor Sunday service will be held on February 11th, followed by a pancake breakfast. Please sign your name on the sheet in the narthex if you’re able to attend!
Ash Wednesday Devotion and Dinner
The Ash Wednesday Service and Dinner will be held on February 14th at 6:00 p.m. Food will be provided. A free-will offering would be appreciated. Please see the sign-up sheet in the narthex.
Epiphany is the season of signs. We begin this season right after Christmas and it will take us to Lent, Ash Wednesday on February 14th. Three foreign rulers travel far to see an ordinary Jewish baby; water becomes wine at Cana; the heavens open and the Spirit descends over Jesus in the Jordan. This One whom we recognize as one of us is God’s own beloved. Last Sunday we were reminded that we, too, are beloved by God as we renewed our baptism and felt God’s grace and love for us. Henri Nouwen writes: “The one who created us is waiting for our response to the love that gave us our being. God not only says: “You are my Beloved.” God also asks: “Do you love me?” and offers us countless chances to say “Yes.”
The readings during this season remind us of God’s persistence in calling us into a new, deeper relationship and sending us on a mission. Samuel is awakened in the night. Jesus utters the words “Come and See.” The stories of Jesus reveal him acting with a new authority, casting out demons and restoring outcast sinners to fellowship.
