Holy Humor Sunday was lots of laughs! Ha! Bill and Ann did not realize we had so many comedians in the congregation that could share jokes and not mess up on the “punchline.” It was great to have so many participating and so willing to take part. Afterwards for the grand finale, we joined in Fellowship Hall for yummy pancakes, sausage, fruit, all the trimmings for a delicious brunch. There were so many of you who helped set up, cook, clean up – not a detail was missing. We even had a jolly pancake designed and presented to us. All of this would not have been nearly as much fun without so many of the members making the effort to attend even with the icy, snowy roads. You never cease to amaze us with your faithfulness. This brings “boat loads” of thanks!!

Ash Wednesday Dinner Thanks!
To everyone who helped with the Ash Wednesday dinner, many, many thanks!

GEMS: God’s Elegant Mature Servants
GEMS will be meeting on Thursday, February 22nd at 12:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The speaker will be Jamie Samolej from Oakmont Senior Community Center. Jamie will be looking forward to meeting everyone and would like to play bingo with all of you. The menu for lunch will include soups, salads, and desserts. There are two sign-up sheets on the bulletin board in the narthex. Please sign up if you plan to attend, and if you would like to bring either a salad, vegetable or dessert. For more information, please contact Kathy Hyde or Debbie Leafdale.

Please note: If there is a snow storm on the day of GEMS and Troy Community Schools are closed, then GEMS will also not take place. We would reschedule it for the next month.

Movie Morning
We have a great movie lined up for our February Movie Morning, “Victoria and Abdul.” We’ve changed the date from Wednesday, February 14th (since that is Ash Wednesday) to Wednesday, February 21st at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.
The movie shows how Queen Victoria strikes up an unlikely friendship with a young Indian clerk named Abdul Karim.
Hope you can join us for the movie, trivia and popcorn.

Troy Interfaith Group (TIG)
The next TIG meeting is being held on Monday, March 5, 7:00-8:30 pm at Troy First United Methodist Church on Livernois Rd. in Troy. We’re looking forward to hearing from one of our TIG founders Rev. Rich Peacock, and others about their work towards peacemaking in our community and beyond.

The First Sunday of Lent
“Treasure” We are created whole gems, daughters and sons fashioned and treasured by God. In times of pain, we can feel like we have been part of a ship wreck. However, there is healing in our communion with the One who gathered up all people at the table of love and forgiveness.

Book Group
Join us on Wednesday, Feb. 28th, at 7:00 p.m. as we discuss Agatha Christie’s, Murder on the Orient Express. Detective Hercule Poirot is called upon to solve a murder on a passenger train as it is stalled by an avalanche. A classic!

Lenten Study Starting Ash Wednesday, February 14th
The Lenten Devotional Booklet called “Jesus and the Prophets” is ready to pick up. And thanks to Karen Lake and Ruth Fedor for the extras: prayers for the 40 days of Lent and decorated safety pins you can wear to remind you that in this time of prayer and reflection, God’s love keeps us safe.
