Troy Community Coalition Prayer Breakfast
This annual prayer breakfast will take place on Friday, May 3, 7:30-9:00 a.m. at the San Marino Club in Troy. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Janet Gaston Petty, Metropolitan United Methodist Church. If you would like to attend, please see Penny Luebs. If there is enough interest, a table sponsorship is available for participants to sit together. More information is available on the narthex bulletin board.
Volunteer at Forgotten Harvest
We have two new opportunities to volunteer with Forgotten Harvest for Monday Warehouse repacks in April and May:
Monday, April 29, 9 am – 12 pm, and Monday, May 20, 1 pm – 4 pm
Please RSVP to Louise, and she will email you the link with information. Preregistration online is recommended but not required; a mandatory dress code is listed online.
Up to 3 volunteers can carpool with Louise; meet at church at 8:10 am on April 29th.
The session recently voted to disburse the 2017 interest from the mission foundation. (No interest was earned in 2018). Interest, in the amount of $4,660.95, will be divided equally among the following three Presbytery endorsed organizations: Presbyterian Disaster Relief; Presbyterian Hunger Fund; and Southwest Detroit Immigrant and Refugee Center. We are grateful that we are able to help with overcoming these three challenges. Your birthday offerings keep our mission foundation viable. Letters from two of the organizations are posted in the narthex.
GEMS: God’s Elegant Mature Servants
Join us for GEMS on Thursday, May 9th at 10:45 a.m. for lunch at the Terrace Café at Troy Athens High School. If you plan to attend, please sign up by May 2nd on the bulletin board in the narthex. We look forward to seeing you and a friend! For more information, please contact Debbie Leafdale or Joyce Jarnick.
Movie Morning and Lunch
On Wednesday, May 8th, we will meet at a local theater for the morning movie and then have lunch at Olive Garden after. Plan on joining us that day for fun and great food and, yes, that’s right, trivia!! Details to follow!
Crop Walk: Save The Date–Sunday, May 5, 2019, 12:30
The 29th Annual Troy/Clawson CROP Hunger Walk will take place on Sunday May 5, starting at Trinity Lutheran Church, 749 West 14 Mile Road, Clawson (south side of W. 14 Mile between Main Street and Crooks). Plan to arrive by 12:30 to get registered. Meet on the lawn; the walk gets under way by 1:00. There are one-mile and 3-mile walk routes. Stay for the luncheon provided by Trinity Lutheran Church immediately after the walk. Local businesses provide food and there are games and raffle prizes. Please contact Joe Peterson to sign up and receive your folder for sponsors for the walk. The folder and money raised need to be returned to Joe at our church the day of the walk before you go to Clawson. The funds raised go toward ending hunger; 25% of the funds we raise stay in our local community (a portion to The Clawson Food Pantry and Troy People Concerned).
Sunday School Fish Banks Net $75.00!
Our Sunday School children were delighted to donate $75.00 to the One Great Hour of Sharing mission giving. Once again, they collected coins in their fish-shaped banks.
From a list of worldwide mission projects, the children selected a rainwater catchment system to help communities in places of poverty collect and store useable water for irrigation and washing.
Sermon Bible Study
Our sermon Bible study is changing days from Tuesdays to Thursdays at 2pm, and will resume on May 16, at Barnes and Noble in Rochester Hills.
Vote for the Summer Sermons Series!
Pastor Jasmine and Pastor Dan have two ideas for sermons throughout the summer. One idea is to preach through difficult, hard to understand passages, partly inspired by your input. The other idea would be to preach through the book of Confessions, which the Presbyterian Church defines as our guiding documents and is heavily influenced by Scripture. We would like you to vote on May 12 or 19. If you are not going to be in church both of those Sundays, let us know and we’ll get your vote in another way.
